Prof. Liu (Tenured full professor in SUSTech) earned his Ph.D. degree in 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Chi-Ming Che from The University of Hong Kong. The development of catalytic asymmetric radical reactions to realize the stereochemical control of open-shell intermediates remains a formidable challenge owing to the high reactivity of free radical species and the presence of competitive racemic background reactions. To solve this challenging problem, Prof. Liu’s research group has been leading one important revolution in this area by developing a series of chiral anion/Cu catalysts as a novel single-electron reductant catalyst to realize different types of radical-involved asymmetric reactions. This novel and efficient catalytic system not only provides a practical platform for expedient assembly of diverse synthetically valuable chiral building blocks of interest in chemical engineering, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, advanced materials as well as catalysis research areas, but also opens the door to develop more efficient methods for catalytic asymmetric radical reactions. Owing to these achievements, they have published 90 research papers in international journals as the corresponding author and applied 14 patents in SUSTech, especially 44 research papers in top international journals, including Nat. Chem. (3), Nat. Catal. (2), Chem (2), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (9), Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (18), Nat. Commun. (6), Sci. Adv., Acc. Chem. Res., Chem. Soc. Rev. and CCS Chem. Owing to his contribution in Chirality Chemistry, he has been awarded CCS Youth Chirality Award (中国化学会青年手性化学奖) this year.
